Is media responsible for sexually active and violent kids?

Today kids are overexposed to sex and violence in the media. Watching a tv show, movie, music video without seeing something violent or sexual is almost impossible. Even the top selling video games are violent, In grand theft auto; you kill, steal and rape to score points ~whatever happened to Super mario (ok..dating myself). What type of impact does this content have on our kids? Do they become immune to sexual content and violence? Meaning, it's no longer shocking to see cold blooded murders, it's no longer shocking to see someone's slashed to pieces. Movies tell us that it's ok to have sex with someone you've just met, one night stands are the norm ~they forget to mention things like pregnacy, stds, and regret. With all this overexpose to sex and violence, it's easy to see why we blame an increase in teen pregnacies and violence on the media. Can you really blame the media if kids are sexually active or violent? Thought the media plays a role in this, I believe parents are still responsible. It's true that you can't filter all the stuff your kids will see or hear, but you can control how they perceive and handle it. Inorder for our children to navigate thru the media's message parents must get involved. Don't just blame media ~ blame the parent who doesn't get involved
